My Approach to Counseling
I recognize that counseling can be both a rewarding and initially uncomfortable experience, especially if this is your first time in treatment. I understand that talking to a new person about personal challenges may be difficult at times. For this reason, I believe it is important to first establish a safe and trusting relationship with my clients. I do this through the use of incorporating a person-centered therapeutic approach. Person-centered counseling promotes a strong counselor-client relationship, trust, and no judgement. I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused techniques to promote the development of healthy coping skills and to bring awareness of the interaction between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I believe that the use of these treatment approaches can promote positive changes in the lives of my clients.
